USB 3.0 to Sata 3.5 adapter

This project started from the need to check a 3.5″ hard disk backup that was in an external box and that I could no longer use. Unable to mount under Windows or Linux, although detected, it also made a click that made me fear the worst.

I bought a simple USB 3.0 Sata adapter for laptop hard drives, but it has no external power supply to operate a 3.5″ drive that needs 12V. I didn’t want to destroy or weaken this adapter either, so I chose to sacrifice a male/female Sata extension cable to allow a 12V power supply.

The material:

    • a USB to Sata self-powered adapter
    • a Sata male/female extension.
    • a female DC connector.
